His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder, Art of Living, today, met and signed an MOU with the North Miami Mayor, Mr. Andre D. Pierre, and discussed their mutual interest in supporting efforts to rebuild quake-stricken Haiti.
Sri Sri and Mayor Pierre signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the intent to accomplish the following in the State of Florida, the nation and the world:
• Promote the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the Haitian diaspora in the USA.
• Provide programs and practical tools to combat stress, trauma, and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and encourage empowerment and healing.
• Provide stress management programs to these communities’ service providers to prevent ‘compassion fatigue’ ie burn out and allow for high levels of effective service.
• Support efforts to rebuild Haiti
The MOU states both parties will entertain discussions on how to achieve this as well as support human values such as, friendliness, compassion, a sense of belongingness and service to others as promoted by Art of Living’s sister organisation - the International Association for Human Values (IAHV).
The Art of Living foundation along with IAHV have been working in Haiti since 2007 and are currently offering stress and trauma relief, post earthquake, both in Haiti and in the USA.
Sri Sri is currently on a 12-city, 21-day tour to the USA. On April 26, 2010, he addressed 900 people at the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood.
